IAE:  What is the Pocket Sound Booth Oval and what influenced you to create this
remarkable product?
ELIOT:
The Pocket Sound Booth Oval is a powerful tool to stop ambient sound from reaching
your microphone. Most microphones already reduce unwanted sounds from the back, the Pocket
Sound Booth Oval is the only ambience reducer that reduces sound from all sides and the back
of a microphone; that’s 85% of unwanted reflections blocked in a compromised acoustic
environment. That’s enough to not only make acceptable recordings in bad environment but
excellent recordings.
We’ve worked hard to make Neumann style studio microphones useable in non-studio
environments such as home recording studios and hotel rooms for working voice-over artists,
actors doing
ADR, reporters, and musicians. We succeeded with around 10dB of reduction from
all angles but leaving the front of the microphone clean. All other known reflection filters are un-
patentable over our worst case mode, which we wouldn’t even think of selling! Other reflection
filters only block sound from the back, something good mics already do so what’s the point?
Therefore other designs can’t even come near the effectiveness of our Oval model Pocket
Sound Booth™.
We also are the only ambience reducer product the dares to show real performance graphs
made with real microphones in real environments.

IAE:  What were some of the challenges you faced creating this product early on?
ELIOT:
With extensive testing done at several top acoustics companies over the years we found
that
any hard materials cause comb filtering and resonances when used near microphones,
even if they have holes punched in the metal parts.
Acoustic foam and fiber board (normally used on walls) do not block enough sound to be
useful in an ambience reducer; which is what all of our competitors use.  No matter how many
layers of sound absorption you use, it does not matter if the sound can easily diffract around an
ambience reducer that is a foot away from your microphone.  It takes huge heavy baffles to be
effective, about 4 times the size of current reflection filters.
We solved all of the above problems with the Pocket Sound Booth Oval. Operating very close
to a microphone allows maximum reduction from the most angles.  Proper foam design blocks
and damps sounds that would take four times the thickness using conventional foams; absolutely
no hard surfaces next to your microphone; resistive control can improve the accuracy of most
microphones. Not only that, the latest PSB-Oval looks great! Artistically carved by robots in the
USA and finished by hand in the USA.

IAE:  What types of applications/uses is the Pocket Sound Booth Oval best suited for?
ELIOT:
The PSB – Oval  is great for almost any recording application; voice bloggers on USB
mics, top Voice Over artists and broadcast reporters who have to record on the road for major
TV stations, musicians in bedroom studios, smooth bleed control in studios, isolation on acoustic
drum kits, recording in front of computers with fans running, outdoor recordings, and with the
included pop filter/wind screen your mic footprint remains small and out of the way. The PSB –
Oval lowers higher frequency feedback potential in PA systems, isolation of acoustic guitars on
stage, makes shotgun mics even better and usable in small rooms, micro-recorders and the list
goes on.

IAE:  Who should use the Pocket Sound Booth Oval and how can the novice user benefit
from the product?
ELIOT:
The Pocket Sound Booth Oval – is a powerful tool for professional users and
performers. For the novice user the PSB –Oval allows you to get professional isolation for
minimum investment. For working performers the PSB – Oval fits in a box smaller than most mic
cases and keeps your sound consistent no matter the location you have to record in. It can make
the difference of having to book studio time or doing it yourself.

IAE:  This product is so affordable that anyone can afford it.  Where can people buy a
Pocket Sound Booth - Oval?
ELIOT:
We focus on several dedicated retailers that handle the professional video, film, TV and
radio broadcast, and music industries; PerformanceAudio and MarkerTek.
Our favorite comment on the product was an unprompted writing on a blog of a VO artist: the
Pocket Sound Booth ambience reducer lowered the fan noise from his Mac enough that he put
his Neumann microphone back into service in his studio. That’s what it’s all about.

ELIOT CASE SILENCES SOUND ON THE LAM
June 29, 2012 - Interview by Shaine Freeman, I AM Entertainment Magazine
POCKET SOUND BOOTH REDUCES AMBIENT NOISE & ENHANCES MIC SOUND QUALITY
If you're like me, you've been here at some point or another;
you're trying to record a specific person or sound but the
noise coming from the environment you're in is bleeding into
the mic.  You do everything you can think of to reduce the
background noise, but some stuff still gets through.

Well, fortunately for those of us whose profession involves
recording audio, whether its in a studio or broadcasting live
from a public location, Eliot Case has invented the Pocket
Sound Booth - Oval.

Here Eliot talks to us about this great product and how it works.
"...the Pocket
Sound Booth
Oval is the only
ambience
reducer that
reduces sound
from all sides
and the back of a
microphone..."
