Rising DJ / Pop star KORR-A knows a thing or two about the rigors of being an up-and-coming recording artist in today’s highly competitive, social media driven society. Fresh off the release of her new single and music video for ‘Cali Love’, the singer gives us a little intel on who she is and what she’s got coming up.
Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I spent my earlier years growing up in Ukraine dancing and listening to music by my own initiative. When I moved to the U.S., I was obsessed with Michael and Janet (Jackson); the 90’s era. I was always on the hunt for tracks that would make me and other (people) move. Honestly, I think deep down there was always something pulling me towards creating music.
You’ve been developing your audience online and establishing yourself as a future star. What has been the toughest part about making a name in today’s cluttered music space?
Now that we have social media anyone can be noticed if they get enough views or likes. I think that’s tough because it puts talented individuals in a race against not only other music artists, but every cute puppy video or funny fail video. It just seems like there isn’t a formula anymore, and something you least expected could get your music noticed. You just gotta remind yourself that every little step counts, and keep believing in yourself.
Your new single and video, “Cali Love” is very catchy. Who did you work with on this song, and how long did it take to shoot the video?
Thanks!! The song was produced by Overdrive Productions, The Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Ðj Lodato. Awesome guys! We shot the video all day, I had to be on set in Malibu, California at 5 AM and we didn’t wrap until sunset. The police followed us and they stopped the shooting process several times during the day. It was a crazy fun-filled day. But I am used to being on set for videos and other projects.
Is there an album or EP in the works? If so, when can fans expect it to release?
Yes, I am currently working on my first full body of work. I am also focusing on my career as a DJ. I recently spun at a fashion show in Beverly Hills on August 11th. But an EP is definitely coming your way. We don’t have a release date yet, but you won’t have to wait too long! Hopefully I can get my DJ mixtape out before then too.
When you’re not recording or performing, what hobbies are you involved with?
Outside of recording and performing, I love Djing and all things music. But I’m also very athletic. I love Cali because I love being outside, hiking and playing sports. If I am not in the studio you can catch me on the beach and spending time with family and friends. Painting is also something else I am getting into.
